You’ll recognise the same great flavours of O’Hara’s Irish Stout with trademark robust roast flavour complemented by a full-bodied and smooth mouth feel. O’Hara’s Irish Stout Nitro is available in 440ml Cans due to widget technology allows you to experience the same brilliant cascading effect and smooth creamy head as a draught pour.
Colour/Appearance
A deep black colour with a reddish hue when held to the light. It pours with
a thick creamy head from the keg, whereas the bottle version which is
carbonated pours with a thick fluffy head that is almost tan in colour.
Aroma
On the nose the drinker experiences a rich and complex coffee aroma with
light liquorice notes. From the bottle, the carbonation accentuates and
intensifies the roast aroma.
Aftertaste
A generous addition of Fuggles hops lead to a tart bitterness which
mingles with the roast espresso flavours on the tongue.
We wanted to give a real and truly Irish flavour to our stout that can
only be created by craft brewing with locally sourced Irish malts.
We use no less than 5 malt and wheat varieties to make our traditional
dry Irish stout. This diverse malt combination is brought to life through
our carefully managed mashing and boiling process. The fabulous flavours
and aromas generated are offset by a number of select old style hop
variety additions to create this truly complete Irish Stout.
Whether you select our nitrogenated draught stout, while you watch the
hypnotic sight as the glass slowly cascades into a creamy head,
or try our carbonated bottle stout, we hope you appreciate the flavours and enjoy.
While the term stout is reputed to have applied to higher abv porters in
Britain, it is said that the “stout” style that evolved in Ireland originates
from the use of heavily roast malts introduced in Irish breweries after the
famine in hardened economic times. While not strong in terms of abv
the stronger roast flavoured malts lends a more robust flavour to the style
giving a dry finish – hence the term Dry Irish Stout.
Nitrogenation was used in stouts to approximate the smooth carbonation
typical of cask conditioned ales and has become the norm for kegged Irish
stout, giving a smooth creamy texture to the head.
“This award-winning full-bodied and luxuriously smooth dry Irish stout
brings one back to how Irish stouts used to taste”
(John McKenna, Irish Times).
